"Repetition Induces Comfort Everywhere" - Allisdhair McNaull and the Rice of Life
|
'Ello Reader - Allisdhair McNaull is a self-taught photographer and poet whose words and voice are featured on the upcoming psychedelic poetry album Repetition is the Rice of Life. Check out the video below with visuals produced by Dex Hannon: Interview with Allisdhair1: You, in two sentences: I am a photographer and poet who is fascinated with the relationship between perception, how we perceive things and reality. I wonder, what is real? And does it matter? 2: What was your method for creating the poem- anything you’d like to share on your process? The line, repetition is the rice of life, triggered the idea of a comforting mantra, which I formed from words beginning with each letter of RICE in turn to be repeated to induce calm. The change of words in the final verse reflects a tendency to stay within one’s own comfort zone, but there is also a hint of darkness and control. 3: What were your thoughts on hearing the outcome? When I first heard the finished track, the hard electronica felt like the perfect accompaniment for my words, reflecting the assault on our senses we face every day whilst we strive to maintain a calmness within. 4: What was your connection to SkinGasm before agreeing? I was invited to contribute to the project via a Facebook friendship. The internet works in mysterious ways. 5: What’s your favourite rice-based meal? Rice is my go to accompaniment to spicy dishes. It is a comforting food. What else are you working on/anything to share… Currently I am working on a pictorial guide to mindfulness combining my photography and words, possibly poetry, possibly prose.
